Iron Man Poetry

These poems were inspired by The Iron Man by Ted Hughes. They follow this pattern:
Simile,
Progressive verbs (sound effects),
Relative clause
Past tense verb

The Iron invader
Like a berserk invader,
Growling, humming,
The Iron Man, that unconquerable contraption,
Peered.
By Maria Aalia

The Iron Invader
Like a creeping invader,
Beeping, creaking,
The Iron Man, that monstrous machine,
Stared.
By Rohaan Ali

The Iron Destroyer
Like an immortal invader,
Creaking, squeaking,
The Iron Destroyer, that beastly mechanoid,
Peered.
By Huda Al-Hashimi

The Iron Man
Like an ominous invader,
Grinding, clanking,
The Iron Man, that beastly intruder,
Loomed.
By Rayhan Ali

 The Iron Man
Like a gargantuan beast,
Clanking, screeching,
The Iron Man, that beastly humanoid,
Loomed.
By Daniyaal Aslam

The Iron Man
Like a destructive humanoid,
Shouting, howling,
The Iron Man, that monstrous machine,
Stomped.
By Aaliyah Aftab

The Iron Man
Like a colossal destroyer,
Growling, howling,
The Iron Man, that immense robot,
Marched.
By Arij Ahmed

The Iron Destroyer
Like an invading humanoid,
Whirring, grinding,
The Iron Man, that colossal contraption,
Appeared.

Music Videos

The children in year 5 spent a day learning about how music can convey positive messages. We looked in particular at Beat It by Michael Jackson, which was written to encourage young people to stay away from gangs. One of the activities the children did was to write a letter to a gang member to help them to make a more positive choice. Here is an example of one of these letters.

Dear gang leader,
I wanted to write to you about your gang. The people in your gang are intimidating us. They are dangerous because they have weapons. They could cause something fatal and catastrophic. Please break up the gang. Think wisely.
I can tell that you don’t like the other gang because they hurt someone you knew. Forgive them and move on because we’re all going to die one day. The other gang might be scared like you. So they are not the enemy, fear is.
Here is what I think you should do to avoid the fight. I think that you should make peace. Do not be tricked into the den of death.
Sincerely,
Rayhan Asif
