Equality Objectives
Legal Framework
The Equality Act 2010 identifies seven ‘protected characteristics’ that it is unlawful to discriminate against by treating someone to whom one or more of the characteristics apply less favourably. They are:
The school’s vision statement refers inclusively to allowing our pupils to 'Believe in themselves and to put their print on the world by daring to be different.'
Our school is committed to equal opportunities and as such we challenge prejudice and inequality in all its forms. We will continue to build on good practice through our Public Sector Equality Duty.

Equality Objectives
- To make the curriculum accessible for all by:
- creating a rich vocabulary environment;
- emphasising reading through all curriculum areas;
- designing appropriate curriculum content that is appropriate for all children;
- allowing all pupils to bring their experiences to discussion through a 'Philosophical Question' each term;
- to promote oracy and communication throughout school to give all pupils the chance to express their needs, thoughts, opinions and explanations.
- To restore and promote highly-effective learning behaviour for all children by:
- using Zones of Regulation to help chidlren understand how to manage their behaviour;
- using Collaborative Proactive Solutions;
- using R2i (Routes To Inclusion);
- promoting positive behaviour through class-based behaviour charters;
- working with parents and carers to achieve a consistent approach to behaviour management;
- using technology at home to enhance school-based learning.
- To develop physical and mental fitness for all by:
- providing high-quality equipment for outdoor play;
- providing high-quality equipment for indoor play;
- teaching the skills of leadership and collaboration through COJO;
- promoting school visits and experiences to develop children's cultural capital;
- undertaking environmental audits of classrooms to ensure learning is optimised for all pupils.

- Gender reassignment
- Pregnancy or maternity
- Eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
- Foster good relations across all characteristics – between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
