Freedom Rap (Anti-slavery work)

Freedom by Los Murcielagos

Break the chains,
End the pain,
We won’t be enslaved again,
We want FREEDOM!
Hurgh!
Everybody needs FREEDOM!

Free like a chick breaking out of its shell,
Free like a prisoner leaving his cell,
Free like a dolphin jumping through waves,
Free like the courage of all the escaped slaves
As free as the sea that covers the globe,
As free as a ball rolling down a slope
Free like a mind that’s racing with thoughts
We will never be sold we will never be bought
We will never be sold we will never be bought

Break the chains,
End the pain,
We won’t be enslaved again,
We want FREEDOM!

Everybody needs FREEDOM!

Free like being on your own
With no …

Freedom for my life,
Freedom is my hope,
Freedom is my journey
And cleans like soap

Shaking With Fear

Under the enlightened sky,
At the time of noon,
After a back-breaking morning of work,
The slave found himself
Cutting the sugar cane.

Holding onto his family,
Panicked by the journey ahead,
Tiptoeing through the swamp,
Shaking with fear,
Timothy the slave
Was on his way to Pennsylvania

The Slave Collar

The Slave

The indifferent and impeding collar,
Constricts the way of precious life,
The merciless and filthy collar,
Ignores the destructive things it has done.

Suffering, flinching, aching, cutting,
Working, flinching, regretting, picking,
Starving, praying, trying.

Slave Music

As part of their topic on slavery in America, the children in year 5 are working on a number of pieces of music for a performance assembly. These pieces explore the differences between major and minor chords, and the different feelings they create. They were made using Garageband on the iPads, using piano arpeggios.
Glossary:
Chord – two or more notes played together at the same time
Major – a scale or chord that generally has a positive feeling
Minor – a scale or chord that generally has a negative feeling
Arpeggio – the notes of a chord played one after the other rather than all at the same time
