  • Attendance

At Scotholme Primary School, we believe that every child deserves the best opportunities and start in life so that they can be successful in the future.

That journey begins with being in school every day and ready to learn. Children with good attendance make the best progress, build stronger friendships, and enjoy their school experience more. We want every child’s time at Scotholme to be positive and rewarding.

To help share this message, we work with two very special friends:

They have a very simple message for us all:

    Attendance: A Shared Responsibility

We believe attendance is a partnership between school, parents, and pupils. When we work together, children thrive.

To support this, we work closely with Inclusive Attendance and the Education Welfare Service of Nottingham City Council. Together, we provide a three-tier support programme.

For most children, they will receive our universal attendance offer:

For children whose attendance may be dropping, we offer our Targeted Support package: -

For those children who become persistent absentees (i.e. have more than 19 days off), we offer our Intensive Support package: -

Why Persistent Absence is a Problem

Being a “persistent absentee” (missing 19 or more days) can have a big impact:

💡 The children can find learning harder – Lessons build on each other, so missing school means they may struggle to keep up.

💡 Friendships can be affected – Being away a lot makes it harder for children to feel part of the class and enjoy time with friends.

💡 Routines get disrupted – Regular attendance helps children feel secure and confident in their daily routine.

💡 They may fall behind long-term – Missing lots of school now can make it harder to achieve their very best in the future.

💡 We worry about them – If we don’t hear from you about why your child is absent, we will need to follow up, as it’s part of keeping all children safe.

    Support for Parents

We have leaflets for pupils and parents to help explain our attendance procedures, along with guides to Taking an Extended Leave and Punctuality attached to this page. Our school attendance policy is also available on the Policy page.

We also have a link here to our YouTube channel, where you can find information about attendance and other related information in many different languages.
