In one of our science lessons, our Year 5s learned about the cardiovascular system!
We also had a demonstration where the children were able to see the mechanism of a heart pumping - not with a real heart though...we used a jam jar to represent the heart, a balloon cut in half and wrapped over the opening of the jar to represent the muscles in the heart, and two straws to represent the heart's blood vessels.
It was a brilliant demonstration and the children were extremely excited by it! This is also an experiment that anyone can do at home. This video will give you the step by step instructions on how to do the experiment at home: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUdSashz-sY
The children also created some beautiful posters about the cardiovascular system.
